Doorway operates a drop-in service for young people experiencing or threatened with homelessness.  We rely on our volunteers to help run the drop-in as well as provide vital admin support.

We need volunteers who want to give something back to the local community, who enjoy a friendly conversation and who love meeting new people. By getting involved with Doorway, you will be making a real difference.

You don’t need to have previous experience or qualifications, but do need to be interested in other people by being open minded to different social circumstances.  We therefore welcome volunteers from a range of backgrounds.

Volunteering is a commitment that can be challenging, but at the same time rewarding and we strive on empowering our volunteers in developing their own skills, by enhancing success in personal development through opportunities, such as:

  • Volunteering in the drop-in centre
  • External training
  • Attending events
  • Meeting new and interesting people
  • Fundraising
  • Enhancing your skills set and adding to your CV for future employment

Why Volunteer?

Kay’s Story

"I started volunteering just over 7 months ago.  It's something I’d always considered but never saw myself doing due to lack of confidence and I never knew how or where to start. I saw volunteering at Doorway as a great path into a career in support work and care for young people. I’ve witnessed people I know be led down a path they couldn't escape, people I care about give up.

I’ve experienced times in my life where I lost hope, felt alone, didn't have a voice, and made mistakes, been someone I didn't want to be. But there is hope, and that's why I volunteer because I want to help young people see that their lives now don't have to be that way forever, that people do care and change is possible".
