Donated items

Gifts in Kind

Gifts in kind, in the form of donated items are as valuable to the young people we're working with as well as the donations we receive.

Young people accessing our services include some who do not yet have an income with which to support themselves and so the following items are always gratefully received

For young people who are trying to survive on a minimal income, independent living is incredibly daunting.   By removing concern over small, but vital things such as these, greater energy can be focussed on developing “life skills” and moving forward to a positive future.

Many new tenancies fail in the initial stages because of a lack of financial resources that provide the basic household items that turn a house into a home.  By providing these essentials, starter packs can help eliminate the ‘revolving door’ experience of many homeless young people.

Being able to have a wash or shower and smell nice, even if you have no home of your own to go to is essential, especially when you are looking for a job. We hold emergency supplies but these always need topping up and we can use them in our shower facilities at the drop-in centre too.

Bed linen

Young people moving into their first independent accommodation with Doorway are very short on belongings as well as money.  Please see our wish list below of items we always need.   Single sheets, duvet covers and pillow cases give them the basics to start them off. Please note these items must be brand new in packaging to comply with fire regulations.

Non-perishable foods:

We receive generous donations at Christmas which are most welcome. However, we do like to be able to offer emergency food packages as required so these items are of value all year round.
