Doorway is an independent charity set up in 1997 following the youth homelessness charity Centrepoint research which revealed that an average of one young person a day was seeking help because of homelessness.

The demand for accommodation to rent cannot realistically be met through social housing.  The private rented sector has traditionally been a source of affordable accommodation for young people, which is why Doorway looks for landlords in this sector.  Landlords offer all types of accommodation to Doorway to help young people and this currently includes bedsits and houses (shared either entirely by Doorway clients or with a landlord’s own letting).

We provide free, confidential advice and support services on matters related to young people aged 16 – 25 years in the boroughs of Nuneaton, Bedworth, North and South Warwickshire.  Our services are based on the need for adaptability and flexibility, recognising that the issues facing young people change constantly.  We work with our service users on individual support plans addressing their identified need.

Doorway benefits from the experience and professionalism of its staff and inter-agency working to provide advice and support to homeless young people and those at risk of homelessness.  We are committed to delivering our services fairly and equitably to other organisations, landlords and young people who, in particular, are more likely to experience discrimination.  Our policies reflect this.

Doorway’s participative management system ensures that all the team, management committee and young people have the opportunity to feed into the decision making process.

Over the past 10 years Doorway has worked hard to provide a free service for private landlords who rent accommodation to our young people.

Services that we can offer landlords include:

  • Professional housing advice
  • Preparation of license and tenancy agreements
  • Photographic inventories
  • Risk assessments
  • Health and Safety inspections
  • Assessment of potential tenants
  • Regular landlord meetings
  • Rent collection service
  • On-line BACS payments
  • Monitoring of rent accounts

Quotes from our Doorway landlords

Doorway is fully co-operative with the needs of the Landlord. They give you peace of mind about your property. I am very happy with the service I have received in the last 5 years and would recommend Doorway to other Landlords and Landladies.

“We have worked in conjunction with Doorway for a number of years with the aim to provide affordable accommodation for 16 to 25 year olds in the Nuneaton and Bedworth area. Homeleigh feels they have a very good working relationship with Doorway and have achieved great progress in this very challenging niche of housing need.

Doorway is wonderful and can take the pressure off being a Landlord.

I think Doorway is fantastic. The service is absolutely second to none!

There is a need for Doorway and they do require suitable accommodation and I have nothing but praise for the dedication of the staff that provide a much needed service to young people in the the County of Warwickshire area.
