Take on the Sleep Out challenge by swapping your cosy bed for a sleeping bag and put yourself in the shoes of those sleeping rough during the cold winter months and throughout the year. The event does not aim to replicate homelessness.  However it provides an insight into what it might be like. The Sleep Out is a night of two halves; a team spirited get together in the first part of the night, before the reality of sleeping outdoors.

The event will take place at Nuneaton Borough Football Club starting from 7:30 pm Friday 15th November 2019 and carrying on through the night until 7:30 am the following morning when a hearty breakfast will be served. You may leave the site at any time but we would appreciate it if you could try to stay on site all night. Please notify a marshal if you intend to leave the site.

Ensure that you have made suitable arrangements to get home in the morning, bearing in mind you may be cold and tired. Doorway will not be held responsible for the safety of participants since the event will be held in a public place. Please note it is your responsibility to provide warm clothing, sleeping bag etc. for you and any children for whom you are responsible - see our sleep out checklist

We welcome children over 10 years old to participate. For Health and Safety reasons all participants under 18 years old must be accompanied by a responsible adult who is at least 18 years old. Please ensure a separate registration form is filled in for each child and that the relevant information and consent is provided.

  • Toilet facilities will be provided at the Club throughout the night.
  • Thanks to the kindness and generosity of the Football Club all participants will have a cooked breakfast served in the morning.  If you have particular dietary requirements, please bring your own snacks.
  • In the event of adverse weather the Club will be open.

Please help us to look after Nuneaton Borough Football Club pitch: there will be no access to the pitch throughout the event.  To keep everyone safe, due to risks presented by darkness, steps and hypothermia, this will be an alcohol-free (and obviously drug-free) event.

Doors will open from 7.30 pm till 8.30 pm on Friday evening. During the evening there will be a quiz.

The sleeping area will be fully outdoors in the football stands or around the side of the pitch.

Please ensure you have registered for the event with the official registration form available online, click to Register or complete a form in our Drop-in Centre. Registration is FREE but ESSENTIAL to book your place.  One form for each participant to be received by the 4th November at the latest to ensure entry.

On arrival at the event please sign in at the registration desk inside the club to ensure that we are aware that you are on site. You will then receive a wristband as proof of your attendance.

As a charity we rely on donations and fundraising events to continue to make a difference to the lives of many young homeless people by providing them with hope for the future. There is no charge to participate in the sleep out but we do ask that you raise money for Doorway by getting sponsored to sleep rough for the night.

The easiest way to collect sponsorship money is to create an online fundraising page with JustGiving or Localgiving, since this reduces the amount of office administration and Gift aid is automatically claimed on our behalf.

Creating your fundraiser and our Top Tips to get the most out of your fundraising.

Always have paper sponsorship forms with you – a lot of people, particularly those who are older, don’t trust the internet, so give them an alternative option (it’s harder to turn you down when you ask people face to face as well!)

If you are unable to donate online then you can collect a fundraising pack from our Drop-in Centre or email [email protected] to ask for one to be posted.

Thank you so much for supporting Doorway.  Please help us to spread the word by sharing our event.  Whilst we will not be able to replicate the realities of sleeping rough we can increase awareness within our community. Although we are giving up a warm bed for the night, we still have one to go back home to in the morning!

If you are unable to take part you can still Donate to support our Sleep Out.
